Imagine Dragons' Evolve Tour

Updated: Oct 19, 2018

A fantastic performance which has left me eagerly awaiting their next album.

The haunting orchestral sound of violins and pianos slowed to a halt as the lights dimmed, turning the room pitch black. The screen behind the stage lit up with a clip re-telling the story of how the Earth was formed, resembling the eerie black and white style of The Twilight Zone. Met with the roaring noise of clapping and whistling, four guys stood on stage, embracing the attention, as the backdrop changed to form the colours of the rainbow. As a microphone was lifted, the sound of synths grew louder, as the spotlights behind the four, changed from blue to pink to orange to green, as he huskily sung the words to their new song 'I Don't Know Why'. Las Vegas band, Imagine Dragons, had arrived.

The band kicked off their Evolve tour in the UK with a bang, performing to a sold-out Genting Arena in Birmingham on February 24th, accompanied by their supporting act K. Flay. I was lucky enough to bag myself a couple of tickets for my boyfriend and me, and I'm so glad I did (even if buying them were come of the most stressful minutes of my life). They played songs from their entire musical archive, rewinding to their early days with On Top Of The World, It's Time and Radioactive (no doubt that it would be included). As well as performing a bunch of songs from their Smoke and Mirrors album including acoustic renditions of a few. However, this was the Evolve Tour, so celebrating their latest album, a lot of their time on stage was spent belting out their most recent hits such as I Don't Know Why (my favourite), Walking the Wire (another favourite) and Yesterday (yet another favourite).

Imagine Dragons are one of the very few bands where I love ALL of their songs, and after seeing them live, their albums just don't convey how talented they are in real life. I would highly recommend going to see them live if you get the chance, not only are the songs incredible but their passion, enthusiasm and energy along with chemistry they, especially frontman Dan Reynolds, developed with the audience made the experience 100 times better.

Since Saturday, I have been listening to the band's albums on repeat, trying to relive the concert, as well as wearing my Imagine Dragons top which I bought on the night (it may as well of cost me my soul considering how expensive it was). But until I see them again, I'll just have to keep rewatching and singing along to the videos I took on the night which, looking back, are actually pretty good. I completely put this down to the fantastic seats we managed to get, as my filmmaking ability it rather awful.
